Volume II

Success — as defined in the Quran

This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious believers of Islamic Monotheism); Who believe in the Ghaib and perform As-Salat (the prayers) and spend out of what we have provided for them. And who believe in that (the Quran and the Sunnah) which has been sent down (revealed) to you (O Muhammad, pbuh) and in that which was sent down before you and they believe with certainty in the Hereafter (Resurrection, recompense of their good and bad deeds, Paradise and Hell). They are on (true) guidance from their Lord, and they are the successful.

Surah 2 Al-Baqarah Verses 2-5

They ask you (O Muhammad, pbuh) about the new moons. Say: “They are signs to mark fixed periods of time for mankind and for the pilgrimage”. It is not Al-Birr (piety, righteousness) that you enter the houses from the back, but Al-Birr (is the quality of the one) who fears Allah. So, enter houses through their (proper) doors, and fear Allah that you may be successful.

Surah 2 Al-Baqarah Verse 189

Let there arise out of you a group of people inviting to all that is good (Islam), enjoining Al-Maruf (Islamic monotheism and all that Islam orders to do) and forbidding Al-Munkar (polytheism and disbelief and all that Islam has forbidden). And it is they who are the successful.

Surah 3 Al-Imran Verse 104

O you who believe! Eat not Riba (usury) doubled and multiplied, but fear Allah that you may be successful.

Surah 3 Al-Imran Verse 130

Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Resurrection shall you be paid your wages in full. And whoever is removed away from the Fire (of Hell) and admitted to Paradise, he indeed is successful. The life of this world is only the enjoyment of deception.

Surah 3 Al-Imran Verse 185

O you who believe! Endure and be more patient (than your enemy), and guard your territory by stationing army units permanently at the places from where the enemy can attack you, and fear Allah, so that you may be successful.

Surah 3 Al-Imran Verse 200

These are the limits (set by) Allah (or ordainments as regards laws of inheritance), and whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad, pbuh), will be admitted to Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise), to abide therein, and that will be the great success.

Surah 4 An-Nisa Verse 13

O you who believe! Do your duty to Allah and fear Him. And seek the means of approach to Him, and strive hard in His Cause (as much as you can), so that you may be successful.

Surah 5 Al-Maidah Verse 35

O you who believe! Intoxicants (all kinds of alcoholic drinks), and gambling, and Al-Ansab (animal sacrifice in the name of idols), and Al-Azlam (arrows for seeking luck or decision) are abominations of Shaitan’s (Satan’s) handiwork. So, avoid (strictly all) that (abominations) in order that you may be successful.

Surah 5 Al-Maidah Verse 90

Say (O Muhammad, pbuh): “Not equal are Al-Khabith (all that is evil and bad as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods) and At-Tayyib (all that is good as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), even though the abundance of Al-Khabith may please you”. So, fear Allah, O men of understanding that you may be successful.

Surah 5 Al-Maidah Verse 100

Allah will say: “This is a Day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are Gardens under which rivers flow (in Paradise) – they shall abide therein forever. Allah is pleased with them and they with Him. That is the great success (Paradise)”.

Surah 5 Al-Maidah Verse 119

Say (O Muhammad, pbuh): “I fear, if I disobey my Lord, the torment of a Mighty Day”. Who is averted from (such a torment) on that Day (Day of Resurrection), (Allah) has surely been merciful to him. And that would be the obvious success.

Surah 6 Al-Anam Verse 16

And who does more aggression and wrong than he who invents a lie against Allah or rejects His Ayat (proofs, evidences, signs)? Verily, the Zalimun (polytheists and wrongdoers) shall never be successful.

Surah 6 Al-Anam Verse 21

Say (O Muhammad, pbuh): “O my people! Work according to your way, surely, I too am working (in my way), and you will come to know for which of us will be the (happy) end in the Hereafter. Certainly, the Zalimun (polytheists and wrong doers) will not be successful”.

Surah 6 Al-Anam Verse 135

And the weighing on that Day (Day of Resurrection) will be the true (weighing). So, as for those whose Scale (of good deeds) will be heavy, they will be the successful (by entering Paradise). And as for those whose Scale will be light, they are those who will lose their own selves (by entering Hell) because they denied and rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, signs).

Surah 7 Al-Araf Verses 8-9

[Hud said:] “Do you wonder that there has come to you a Reminder (and an advice) from your Lord through a man from amongst you to warn you? And remember that He made you successors after the people of Nuh (Noah) and increased you amply in stature. So, remember the graces (bestowed upon you) from Allah so that you may be successful”.

Surah 7 Al-Araf Verse 69

Those who follow the Messenger, the Prophet who can neither read nor write (i.e. Muhammad, pbuh) whom they find written with them in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injil (Gospel) with them – he commands them for Al-Maruf (Islamic monotheism and all that Islam has ordained); and forbids them from Al-Munkar (disbelief, polytheism of all kinds, and all that Islam has forbidden); he allows them as lawful At-Tayyibat (all good and lawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), and prohibits them as unlawful Al-Khabaith (all evil and unlawful as regards things, deeds, beliefs, persons and foods), he releases them from their heavy burdens (of Allah’s Covenant with the Children of Israel), and from the fetters (bindings) that were upon them. So those who believe in him, honor him, help him, and follow the light (the Quran) which has been sent down with him, it is they who will be the successful.

Surah 7 Al-Araf Verse 157

O you who believe! When you meet (an enemy) force, take a firm stand against them and remember the Name of Allah much (both with tongue and mind), so that you may be successful.

Surah 8 Al-Anfal Verse 45

Those who believed (in the Oneness of Allah – Islamic Monotheism) and emigrated and strove hard and fought in Allah’s Cause with their wealth and their lives, are far higher in degrees with Allah. They are the successful. Their Lord gives them glad tidings of mercy from Him, and His being pleased (with them), and of Gardens (Paradise) for them wherein are everlasting delights.

Surah 9 At-Taubah Verses 20-21

Allah has promised the believers – men and women – Gardens under which rivers flow to dwell therein forever, and beautiful mansions in Gardens of Adn (Eden Paradise). But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of Allah. That is the supreme success.

Surah 9 At-Taubah Verse 72

But the Messenger (Muhammad, pbuh) and those who believed with him (in Islamic Monotheism) strove hard and fought with their wealth and their lives (in Allah’s Cause). Such are they for whom are the good things, and it is they who will be successful. For them Allah has got ready Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.

Surah 9 At-Taubah Verses 88-89

And the foremost to embrace Islam of the Muhajirun (those who migrated from Makkah to Medina) and the Ansar (the citizens of Madinah who helped and gave aid to the Muhajirun) and also those who followed them exactly (in faith). Allah is well pleased with them as they are well-pleased with Him. He has prepared for them Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever. That is the supreme success.

Surah 9 At-Taubah Verse 100

Verily, Allah has purchased of the believers their lives and their properties for (the price) that theirs shall be Paradise. They fight in Allah’s Cause, so they kill (others) and are killed. It is a promise in truth which is binding on Him in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injil (Gospel) and the Quran. And who is truer to his covenant than Allah? Then rejoice in the bargain which you have concluded. That is the supreme success.

Surah 9 At-Taubah Verse 111

So, who does more wrong than he who forges a lie against Allah or denies His Ayat (proofs, evidences, signs)? Surely, the Mujrimun (criminals, sinners, polytheists and disbelievers) will never be successful!

Surah 10 Yunus Verse 17

Those who believed (in Islamic Monotheism), and used to fear Allah much (by abstaining from evil deeds and sins and by doing righteous deeds). For them are glad tidings, in the life of the present world, and in the Hereafter. No change can there be in the Words of Allah. This is indeed the supreme success.

Surah 10 Yunus Verses 63-64

Say: “Verily, those who invent a lie against Allah, will never be successful”.

Surah 10 Yunus Verse 69

And she, in whose house he (Yusuf) was, sought to seduce him (to do an evil act), and she closed the doors and said: “Come on, O you”. He said: “I seek refuge in Allah! Truly, he (your husband) is my master! He made my living in great comfort! (So, I will never betray him). Verily, the Zalimun (wrong and evildoers) will never be successful”.

Surah 12 Yusuf Verse 23

Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their Salat (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissiveness. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk, falsehood, and all that Allah has forbidden). And those who pay the Zakat (obligatory charity). And those who guard their chastity (i.e., private parts, from illegal sexual acts) …Those who are faithfully true to their Amanat (all the duties which Allah has ordained, honesty, moral responsibility and trusts) and to their covenants; And those who strictly guard their Salawat (prayers). These are indeed the inheritors; Who shall inherit the Firdaus (Paradise). They shall dwell therein forever.

Surah 23 Al-Muminun Verses 1-4/8-11

Then (when the trumpet is blown – the Day of Resurrection), those whose Scales (of good deeds) are heavy, these! They are the successful. And those whose Scales (of good deeds) are light, they are those who lose their own selves, in Hell will they abide.

Surah 23 Al-Muminun Verses 102-103

Verily, there was a party of My slaves who used to say: “Our Lord! We believe so forgive us and have mercy on us, for You are the Best of all who show mercy!” But you (disbelievers, inmates of Hell) took them for a laughing stock, so much so that they made you forget My remembrance while you used to laugh at them! Verily, We have rewarded them this Day (Day of Resurrection) for their patience, they are indeed the ones that are successful.

Surah 23 Al-Muminun Verses 109-111

And whoever invokes (or worships) besides Allah, any other ilah (Allah), of whom he has no proof, then his reckoning is only with his Lord. Surely, Al-Kafirun (disbelievers in Allah, polytheists, idolaters) will not be successful.

Surah 23 Al-Muminun Verse 117

And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts) and not to show off their adornment except that which is apparent, and to draw their veils all over Juyubihina (i.e. bodies, faces, necks and bosoms) and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers, or their husband’s fathers, or their sons, or their husband’s sons, or their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sister’s sons, or their women, or the (female) slaves whom their right hand possess, or male servants who lack vigor, or small children who have no sense of feminine sex. And let them not stamp their feet so as to reveal what they hide of their adornment. And all of you beg Allah to forgive you all, O believers, that you may be successful.

Surah 24 An-Nur Verse 31

The only saying of the faithful believers, when they are called to Allah (His Words, the Quran) and His Messenger (Muhammad, pbuh), to judge between them, is that they say: “We hear and we obey”. And such are the successful. And whosoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, fears Allah, and keeps his duty (to Him), such are the successful.

Surah 24 An-Nur Verses 51-52

Then when Musa (Moses) came to them (the Firaun) with Our Clear Ayat (proofs, evidences, signs), they said: “This is nothing but invented magic. Never did we hear of this among our fathers of old”. Musa (Moses) said: “My Lord knows best him who came with guidance from Him, and whose will be the happy end in the Hereafter. Verily, the Zalimun (wrongdoers, polytheists and disbelievers) will not be successful”.

Surah 28 Al-Qasas Verses 36-37

But as for him who repented (from polytheism and sins), believed (in the oneness of Allah, and in His Messenger Muhammad, pbuh), and did righteous deeds (in the life of this world), then he will be among those who are successful.

Surah 28 Al-Qasas Verse 67

So, We caused the earth to swallow him (Qarun, Korah) and his dwelling place. Then he had no group or party to help him against Allah, nor was he one of those who could save themselves. And those who had desired (for a position like) his position the day before, began to say: “Know you not that it is Allah Who enlarges the provisions or restricts it to whomsoever He pleases of His slaves. Had it not been that Allah was Gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up (also)! Know you not that the disbelievers will never be successful”.

Surah 28 Al-Qasas Verses 81-82

So, give to the kindred his due, and to Al-Miskin (the needy) and to the wayfarer. That is best for those who seek Allah’s Countenance; and it is they who will be successful.

Surah 30 Ar-Rum Verse 38

Those who perform As-Salat (the prayers) and give Zakat (obligatory charity) and they have faith in the Hereafter with certainty. Such are on guidance from their Lord, and such are the successful.

Surah 31 Luqman Verses 4-5

(The dwellers of Paradise will say:) “Are we then not to die (anymore)? Except our first death, and we shall not be punished? (after we have entered Paradise)”. Truly, this is the supreme success!

Surah 37 As-Saffat Verses 58-60

And Allah will deliver those who are the Muttaqun (the pious and Allah fearing) to their places of success (in Paradise). Evil shall touch them not, nor shall they grieve.

Surah 39 Az-Zumar Verse 61

Those (angels) who bear the Throne (of Allah) and those around it glorify the praises of their Lord, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for those who believe (in the Oneness of Allah) (saying): “Our Lord! You comprehend all things in mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your way, and save them from the torment of the blazing Fire! Our Lord! And make them enter the Adn (Eden) Paradise (everlasting gardens) which You have promised them – and to the righteous among their fathers, their wives, and their offspring! Verily, You are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. And save them from (the punishment for what they did of) the sins, and whomsoever You save from (the punishment for what he did of) the sins (i.e., pardon him) that Day, him verily, You have taken into mercy”. And that is the supreme success.

Surah 40 Ghafir Verses 7-9

Verily, the Muttaqun (the pious and Allah fearing) will be in a place of Security (Paradise). Among Gardens and Springs, dressed in fine silk and (also) in thick silk, facing each other; So (it will be). And We shall marry them to Hur (fair females) with wide lovely eyes. They will call therein for every kind of fruit in peace and security; They will never taste death therein except the first death (of this world), and He will save them from the torment of the blazing Fire; As a bounty from your Lord! That will be the supreme success!

Surah 44 Ad-Dukhan Verses 51-57

And you will see each nation humbled to their knees (kneeling), each nation will be called to its Record (of deeds). This Day (Day of Resurrection) you shall be recompensed for what you used to do. This Our Record speaks about you with truth. Verily, We were recording what you used to do (Our angels used to record your deeds). Then, as for those who believed (in Islamic Monotheism) and did righteous good deeds, their Lord will admit them to His Mercy. That will be the evident success.

Surah 45 Al-Jathiyah Verses 28-30

On the Day (Day of Resurrection) you shall see the believing men and the believing women – their light running forward before them and (with their Records – Book of deeds) in their right hands. Glad tidings for you this Day! Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever! Truly, this is the great success!

Surah 57 Al-Hadid Verse 12

You (O Muhammad, pbuh) will not find any people who believe in Allah and the Last Day, making friendship with those who oppose Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad, pbuh), even though they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred (people). For such He has written Faith in their hearts, and strengthened them with Ruh (proofs, light and true guidance) from Himself. And He will admit them to Gardens (Paradise) under which rivers flow, to dwell therein (forever). Allah is pleased with them, and they with Him. They are the party of Allah. Verily, it is the party of Allah that will be the successful.

Surah 58 Al-Mujadilah Verse 22

And those who, before them, had homes (in Al-Madinah) and had adopted the Faith, love those who emigrated to them, and have no jealousy in their breasts for that which they have been given, and give them preference over themselves even though they were in need of that. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, such are they who will be the successful.

Surah 59 Al-Hashr Verse 9

O you who believe! Fear Allah and keep your duty to Him. And let every person look to what he has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do. And be not like those who forgot Allah (i.e., became disobedient to Allah), and He caused them to forget their own selves (let them to forget to do righteous deeds). Those are the Fasiqun (rebellious, disobedient of Allah). Not equal are the dwellers of the Fire and the dwellers of Paradise. It is the dwellers of Paradise that will be successful.

Surah 59 Al-Hashr Verses 18-20

O you who believe! Shall I guide you to a trade that will save you from a painful torment? That you believe in Allah and His Messenger (Muhammad, pbuh), and that you strive hard and fight in the Cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives, that will be better for you, if you but know! (If you do so) He will forgive you your sins, and admit you into Gardens under which rivers flow, and pleasant dwellings in Adn (Eden) Paradise; that is indeed the great success.

Surah 61 As-Saff Verses 10-12

O you who believe (Muslims)! When the call is proclaimed for the Salat (prayer) on Friday (Jumuah prayer), come to the remembrance of Allah and leave off business (and every other thing). That is better for you if you did but know! Then when the (Jumuah) Salat is ended, you may disperse in the land, and seek the bounty of Allah (by working), and remember Allah much, that you may be successful.

Surah 62 Al-Jumuah Verses 9-10

(And remember) the Day when He will gather you (all) on the Day of Gathering – that will be the Day of mutual loss and gain. And whosoever believes in Allah and performs righteous deeds, He will expiate from him his sins, and will admit him to Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise), to dwell therein forever; that will be the great success.

Surah 64 At-Taghabun Verse 9

O you who believe! Verily, among your wives and your children there are enemies for you (who may stop you from the obedience of Allah); therefore, beware of them! But if you pardon (them) and overlook, and forgive (their faults), then verily, Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful. Your wealth and your children are only a trial, whereas Allah! With Him is a great reward (Paradise). So, keep to your duty to Allah and fear Him as much as you can; listen and obey, and spend in charity; that is better for yourselves. And whosoever is saved from his own covetousness, then they are the successful.

Surah 64 At-Taghabun Verses 14-16

Verily, for the Muttaqun (the pious and Allah fearing), there will be a success; Gardens and vineyards, And young full-breasted (mature) maidens of equal age, And a full cup (of wine). No laghw (dirty, false, evil talk) shall they hear therein, nor lying; A reward from your Lord, an ample calculated gift (according to the best of their good deeds), (From) the Lord of the heavens and the earth, and whatsoever is in between them – the Most Gracious, with Whom they cannot dare to speak.

Surah 78 An-Naba Verses 31-37

Verily, those who believe and do righteous good deeds, for them will be Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise). That is the great success.

Surah 85 Al-Buruj Verse 11

Therefore remind (men) in case the reminder profits (them). The reminder will be received by him who fears (Allah). But it will be avoided by the wretched; who will enter the great Fire.
